Hello! I've just finished the second version of the 1941 McCall dress I made last week. This time I changed a few details, more info on my blog. See you!...
Hello there! After much procrastination I finally dared sewing my beloved 1941 McCall dress and the result's not bad actually! It was surprisingly easy to make, more details and pics at my blog, see you!...
Nasrin made this special gift for Lilly, who arrived safely on Tuesday, using Tessuti's Italian *Big Jagged Pink wool knit and McCalls 6907/6188 pattern. The pattern is super easy, using only 2 pattern pieces - the bear measures 16 inches (40cm) high. * Big Jagged Pink has sold out - these colourways are still available. xxx...
I don't know, I've failed to make any maxi dresses in the last 4 years or so that they have been around and suddenly I have made 2 in a row. I'm off shortly for a few days summer vacation - I find I always want to make something new and I just felt like a maxi dress fit the bill....
To download the free McCalls pattern go here. Sign up for a new account and they will email a link to direct you to where you can print it out.Remember we will only be using the skirt portion of this pattern so don't print out more than you need to....
This Sunday are magazine illustrations from McCall's magazine from August 1934....
Click! Click! Miss Cranky Pants is banished, this skirt managed to exorcise her! Recent projects by Gigi and Bunny inspired me to dig through my stash of heirloom trims and use them up. I did a lot of heirloom sewing when my daughters were young, but they outgrew those styles long [...]...
32 Things 17 Items Made 96 Days to Go I love this little jacket. It was so easy to sew and it came out so beautifully. I have to say that I'm majorly impressed with this maybe $5/yard (before the 40% off coupon I used) poplin I got from JoAnn's. It really sewed up beautifully and has a very nice weight....
I wanted to try out the gathered sleeve of View A before putting the pattern away. I was kind of hating it as I was sewing but after trying it on I changed my mind. Not that I want a bunch of these hanging in my closet but it does look pretty on. This sleeve [...]...
Quick Birthday Gift McCall's 4651 and Burda 12/08 #112 Thank you all for the compliments on my daughter and her birthday dress! I know she is growing up quickly and some of you have been around long enough to see that - the first birthday dress I posted when I started blogging was when she turned 8!!! Yesterday, I showed you...
I am always in need of more casual knit tops – they wear out so quickly, don’t they? While I usually steer clear of anything that smacks of the 1980s, I was drawn to this pattern (views A and B, in particular) so I picked one up last week. I have been dying for a [...]...
My latest dress is a blend of McCalls 9583 from 1968 and McCalls 7245 from 1963, though that wasn't my original plan! I wrote more about my trials and tribulations here, but I am happy with the end result. It's also the cheapest dress I've ever made!...
A month ago, I made a dress from McCall's 6069 and kept it in hiding I wore it out of the house recently. Pattern Description: Pullover, above mid-knee, semi-fittted straight dresses A, B, C have elastic waist casing, stitched hem and bodice variations; dress A is sleeveless; dress B has three-quarter sleeves; dress c is leeveless with self sash; dresses A,...
Thanks to my self-imposed clothing and fabric ration, I'm having to get creative in sourcing dress fabric. This dress started life as a tablecloth, presumably sometime during the late 1960s/early 1970s. I bought it in a French thrift shop for €2. I underlined it with a cast-off bedsheet dyed brown, making this dress something of a walking white sale. The pattern...
Pattern/Patron: McCall's M6080 Fabric/Tissu: Cotton silk mix for the blue, linen for the print; un mélange de coton/soie pour le bleu, du lin pour l'imprimé Time required/Temps requis: About a couple of days each; à peu près 2-3 jours chacun Modifications: None for the blue, I removed the pockets for the print; aucune pour le blue, j'ai retiré les poches pour...
McCall's 5804 Pattern Description: Misses Dresses Pattern Sizing: 4-12. I......
I finished up the dress last night. Sometimes it’s fun to make something quick and easy! You can see now why I wanted a very simple black dress (please excuse those weird whitish spots in some of the photos, they are from the flash). Most of you don’t know that I’m a bit of a [...]...
Yesterday I made this cute mid-1940s blouse pattern, McCall 5600: It is SUCH a sweet little blouse! I love it! I made my version in a white spotted voile, nearly a dead ringer for the cover illustration. I made View B, with the yoke from View A, minus the ruffle. The back bodice has a small, faced placket, and there is...
As I mentioned yesterday, I want to whip up a couple of quick, easy and cool summer dresses. These days, the very thought of putting on a pair of pants makes me wilt! The first one I’m going to make is McCall’s 6112, with sleeves: The simplicity and ease of this dress really appeals to [...]...
I bought this stretch silk charmeuse in Hong Kong with AllisonC (I think I paid about $3/meter for it). I enjoy subtle stunt dressing and thought it would be perfect for a 4th of July dress, as it is red, white, and blue but not covered with stripes and spangles. Of course, I didn't think so much about the pattern-you can't...
McCalls 3503. An out-of-print pattern I've had several years. Never used it, but decided now would be a good time. I made View B, sleeveless vest/jacket. Has princess seams, sleeve facings and hidden placket for buttons/buttonholes. The fabric is a poly/twill I think, LOL! But there's enough left to either make the pants to go with this or for the jacket...
A while ago I fell in love with Gertie's Lemon-Tea-Dress - a gorgeous frock that was simple in design with short sleeves, darts, and a pouffy skirt. I trawled etsy looking for a similar pattern that wouldn't break the bank and came up with McCalls 6673: It was very cheap ($3), had never been cut out and contained the pieces to...
http://vintagepatterns.wikia.com/wiki/McCall_407 I'm a sucker for the pink/grey/black colorway. So when I saw this new quilt fabric in my local quilt store, I had to get it. In rummaging through my vintage apron patterns I found this one which I felt was perfect. Unlike a lot of other vintage aprons, this was was quite simple to put together. It took more than...
Hi Everyone! I made this cute little shift dress from a 1965 McCall's pattern, using vintage cotton and a vintage button. Here's the original pattern and fabric choice: And here's the finished dress! I love the open back detail, it adds a fun surprise when you turn around! Features like that make a simple dress a little more special. More pictures...
Pattern : McCall's 6078 (View B) Size : Small Fabric : Rayon interlock from Hancock's (bought over a year ago) I whipped this top up for the Sew, Mama, Sew Make It Wear It Challenge at the very last minute, and what better to make than something I can wear to work! I've had this fabric in my stash for over...
Pattern Descrition: Pencil skirt with double darts in front and single in back, centered zipper Pattern Sizing : 4 to 20, I was between a 10 and 12, so I cut a 12, it is too hot to have anything tight around my middle! Instructions: Super easy to follow, this is four pattern pieces, front, back, front facing and back facing....
I saw the Selfish Seamstress' post on her McCall blouse yesterday, and that reminded me that I'd never shown (or reviewed) my version of this blouse. So, at lunch today, I pulled out the iron, ironed the crap out of this blouse, and took some afternoon balcony shots (thereby undoubtedly providing much entertainment to the office building directly opposite.) Here goes!...
This version of McCall's 5752, the Perfect Knit Dress, looks amazingly similar to the pattern cover, thanks to the fact that I sewed a dress using the exact fabric as one of the samples. The fabric was purchased late last summer with the intent of having this dress sewn and ready to wear when spring rolled around. Well, there was no...
I’m still trying to catch up on my blogging! Here is a bag I made last week, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Here’s the pattern envelope: Yep, I made the cell phone case a couple weeks ago from the same pattern. I made this from scraps left over from a skirt [...]...
